Harmony
I met a girl who I really could not bring myself to like, despite the fact that she was very pretty, nice enough.. On the surface there was nothing to dislike. And yet, her very presence made my skin crawl. How? Why?
I found myself later describing the experience to my man. And as I did, the words fell out of me. I used a metaphor to describe it. That it was like I was one note and she was another - and we just didn't... Sing together.
I later thought more about this odd metaphor and the implications if what I had said were true.
What if.
What if that energy coursing through our veins (the stuff some call Chi) also carries a tune with it - a tune that vibrates away from us and around us - and our experience of meeting new people, going to new places is affected by this force field of sound? We're attracted to people and places that sing to us. We're likewise repelled by those whose notes don't gel with ours.
Could this extend even to a whole country carrying a note or perhaps a chord? What if the U.S. is a C chord and Iraq is a Dflat - there would always be tension there... or dissonance to use the musical term.
Could there be real truth to the notion of living in harmony with others?
Maybe it even extends to our love lives - and we're like those Happy Feet penguins - picking our mates by finding the one penguin whose 'heart song' matches ours. Aww...
Okay, but all animated sentimentalities aside...
I just think there might be something to it - my little theory. After all, lots of unexpected things have sounds... Like the Earth for instance.
And if we were.. "musical" then our lives might be subject to the laws of musical theory, namely: rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, and texture.
In time I might find some supporting science - but in the meantime... I just like the challenge of trying on new thoughts like this for size.

The Secret
I'm curious how many of you have investigated the secret.. And I ask with a mix of amused curiosity and genuine interest in the whole kerfuffle.
For those of you unfamiliar with The Secret's marketing blitz, consider yourself a precious few. What with all of Oprah's dozen endorsements and best-selling books, blockbuster movie, etc. For a while it seemed to be the book/movie/concept on the tip of everyone's tongue.
Like the Celestine Prophecy and He's Just Not Into You - this is a book/concept that might have truly opened some eyes - and prompted an exaggerated yawn from others. Because in the end, it's just common sense.
But if you've avoided all the hype and haven't seen the movie or read the book, let me save you the suspense. It's not a new concept. It's not even "a secret" - it's been around for eons. It's in fact the simplest thing in the world. It's the notion that your thoughts produce your reality.
There. That's all there is. If you constantly whine about being broke - you'll continue to rack up debt. If you believe yourself to be unloveable, you'll not manage to attract a new lover.
Duh.
But... I do have to say that it was a nice little reminder and a kick in the pants at a good time in my life - it's time to stop being a victim. Full stop.
Rather than fret about the lacks I experience - I have to focus on what I would like to occur. But there's a trick to it - you can't focus on what you DON'T want, because you're still attracting it into your life (ie. 'I DON'T want to be alone anymore' - still places emphasis on attracting more 'alone' into your life... A better phrasing would be 'I would like to be in a partnership/meet someone new/ etc.).
It's the law of attraction - and apparently the phrasing counts...
The movie/book goes a tad too far, I feel, in urging people to focus on wealth. Because yeah, sure, we all want to win the lottery and eliminate our debt. But that's our greatest wish of all? Hogwash.
I'm more with my friend Wayne Dyer on this one: We should all stop focusing on winning the lottery and start focusing on the blessings we have around us. We could think about the different kinds of wealth we have, wealth of love, or friends, whatever we already have that we have forgotten about while we've been focusing on what we don't have. THAT will increase our wealth - more than waiting for our numbers to come in.
But like anything else - I think the key is patience. Try to think positively and then wait. Good things come to those who wait, right?
But I'm curious - has anyone else been using "The Secret"? I would love to hear how or if it's working for you.
The Fool Embarks
A new day, a new dawn, and all that Celine Dion jazz… I’ll make my first declaration here and now that I will blog regularly - not just whenever something exciting happens (like last time).
Some might also note that along with the change in domain, there has also been a change in topic - a shift from focusing on my personal life to blogging about the neat new age mumbo jumbo in my brain. The motivation is simple - my personal life is now very stable. There is little drama. In light of this, and because of this, my writing has taken a turn toward the metaphysical.
I wouldn’t dare flatter myself to say that I’m in any means enlightened - but I feel ‘awake’. A good beginning.
I’ve come across a lot of little revelations of late. What better place to share them. Hopefully it will compel my friends, loved ones and readers to engage in discussions here.
So I urge you to contribute your thoughts - they’re more interesting to me than my own.
It’s my belief that we as a collective are all starting to move together toward a more ‘awake’ consciousness. We, as a society, are starting to move toward a new kind of awareness, a new kind of living… Global warming, terrorism, all these things inundating our newspapers and news screens daily are giving us a greater sense of international unity.
There is a lot to learn from friends - and good information comes from unlikely sources. I hope that by opening a dialogue with my spiritually-minded friends and family, that we might all start talking about what really matters.
